Michael asks…
microdermal or surface piercing?
Im looking to get three piercings on my hip but i don’t know the difference between a microdermal and a surface piercing? Can someone please explain the difference and the process for each one? And is it very painful?.. i have nine ear piercings and my belly button pierced and none of them hurt that muchh so how do you think a hip piercing compares?

jerry answers:
A surface piercing goes in & out. Like ontop of your skin. Not like through your ear or belly button. A micro-dermal is an implant.
My friend got her hips pierced and it looked reaaallly painful. They can also get very infected and irritated because of your pants. And both have a high chance of rejecting. Be careful cause they leave gnarly scars

Joseph asks…
microdermals or surface piercing?
i really want my hip pierced and im trying to decide if i want microdermals or a surface piercing.i know that surface piercings tend to reject easily and dont last long and microdermals are permanant.im not sure if i want them forever so should i just go with surface?and which hurts more?whats the usual healing time for both and how much do they normally cost?

jerry answers:
Microdermals can reject and fall out, too. They are called permanent because they have to be surgically cut out with a small incision to be removed. Hips are really a high contact area and really, it’s going to be hard to heal either one. You’re going to have less of a risk with microdermals but that risk is always going to be there.
Pain is different for everyone and price is different for every place but microdermals and surface piercings are generally on the pricier side.

Charles asks…
Has anyone had a tongue surface piercing that healed?
Not a bar through the whole tounge, just in and out through the surface, like this pic:

How long did yours take to heal?
How is the pain on a scale 1-10?
Does it affect taste/sensation/movement at all?
Did it migrate or get rejected? If so, how long did it take?
Thanks

jerry answers:
I had 3! Pain 8. Yes I was paralyzed from the neck up (some weird kind of thing I guess my nerve cluster is center around my tongue).
He taste was metallicy (like the time I swallowed pennies ,or maybe I am getting that confused with a chrloroforming). It took about 6 months to heal (mind numbing agonizing pain).

Infected Surface Piercing On Hand?
I got a surface piercing on my right ring finger last Friday (16ga. Curved barbell). It’s kind of swollen, very red, and some crusting in-between cleanings. I’ve been cleaning twice a day with an antibacterial soap and keeping it VERY loosely covered with a band aid, just to keep it from getting caught on anything so it’s not being suffocated or anything. I’ve also done two sea salt soaks since I’ve gotten it. The swelling is making the balls embed a little (not fully), but I can get them out by pushing on either end. This is my second hand surface piercing and my first time having a problem with it. What can I do to keep the piercing from getting worse and how should I go about cleaning it better. Any ideas or tips from the masters? Do I need to put in a longer bar for swell room? (http://i19.tinypic.com/33mx7us.jpg)

jerry answers:
You probably need a longer barbell. I had a similar problem with a nipple piercing. (I hope that’s not too much info.) The barbell was too short, and the swelling began to get very painful until I had it replaced (I replaced with a ring, obviously you can’t do that on the finger so a longer barbell should work fine). Then I cleaned it just like you are, and did occasional sea salt soaks and it healed up much quicker.
Go to another piercer if you don’t feel comfortable going back to yours, but I’d let the pros help. That’s what I did.
It looks cool! I hope it heals up nicely for you!

Steven asks…
How long does it take for a piercing to close up?
I had my belly button pierced at the top, bottom, and a surface piercing just below my belly button. The bottom piercing and the surface piercings closed up in about 2 months, but the top one was taken out nearly 2 years ago and has still not closed up! I can even get a bar about half way through. It is quite itchy and has pus coming out of it occasionally – what should I do??
Thanks for the replies!

jerry answers:
It depends on how long you’ve had it. Im assuming a while since you say you took it out two years ago and It still hasent closed. I suggest you leave it alone, if the pus comes out on it’s own try cleaning it hand soap and/or warm water and sea salt.
